The bulk of the collection comprises printed reports on matters of university administration published by AIMS and its predecessor organisations between 1968 and 2003, as well as some reports published by AIMS and Associates Ltd after that date. There are also annual reports, surveys, and guides published by AIMS. Some administrative records of the organisation also survive, including management committee minutes and documents relating to the setting up of AIMS and Associates in 2003.

This extensive collection of working and personal papers cover a period dating from McGough's childhood to the time immediately before its deposit in 2007. It gives much insight into his working practices and includes many manuscript, typescripts and notebooks containing various drafts of his poetry, plays, books for children and work for television and radio. Much material relates also to McGough's time as a member of The Scaffold and The Grimms. There are extensive series of appointment diaries and correspondence, with letters from notable individuals, publishers, agents and fan mail, as well as many personal letters. There is an important series of published and unpublished poetry pamphlets and magazines dating the late 1950s onwards. Included with the collection is also a series of printed books by McGough and others, these have been catalogued separately as part of the Library's printed book catalogue, see SPEC McGough.

The Gair Papers in the University of Liverpool Special Collections and Archives, incorporate papers relating to their business ventures, and their family life; dating from the late 18th to the mid 20th centuries.The papers feature the correspondence of Samuel S. Gair and his two sons Thomas and Henry, primarily concerning their work as partners in Baring Brothers & Co.. The papers also include an extensive collection of papers concerning the research into Gair family history, led by Walter Burgh Gair, including the careers and personal lives of various Gair family members.
