There is a large amount of correspondence covering all aspects of his own research and that of his peers, and reflects the many interests and projects with which he was involved. There is a complete set of reprints of Bradshaw's own papers, listed and numbered by him. There are many slides and photographs reflecting his research interests and also for use in teaching.

Biographical/Administrative Information:

Anthony David Bradshaw, biologist, restoration ecologist and Professor at the University of Liverpool, was born in Richmond, Surrey on January 17 1926. His father, Harold Bradshaw was an architect who trained in Liverpool, his mother, Mary, an archaeologist. Bradshaw attended St Paul's school, Hammersmith and then Jesus College, Cambridge. Graduating in 1947 he moved to the University College of Wales, first as a research student in Aberystwyth and then, after gaining his PhD, as a lecturer at Bangor. In 1968 he took the Chair of Botany at the University of Liverpool. He retired in 1988, later becoming Emeritus Professor and Senior Fellow of Botany. He is most well known for his work on the evolution of tolerance to heavy metals in plants growing in contaminated soils and on the restoration of vegetation and functioning ecosystems on derelict land in Liverpool, Wales and across the world.

In 1955 he married Betty Alliston. They had three daughters, Jane, Penny and Sarah. In 1982 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society, he also held the presidency of the British Ecological Society, of which he was made an honorary member in 1988. Bradshaw was the first recipient of Liverpool's Citizen of Honour award.

Anthony David Bradshaw died on August 21 2008, aged 82.
