Dr R R Hughes entered Medical School, University of Liverpool Oct 1931, graduating MB ChB (Hons) Jun 1937; 1938-1939 research in Medicine, awarded MD in Dec 1941 for his thesisĀ Plasms Proteins in Pulmonary Tuberculosis. He died in 1991.

Dr Hughes held the following scholarships whilst a student: Lyon Jones Senior Scholarship (1934-1936); Samuels Memorial Scholarship in Medicine (1939-1940); T. J. Hughes Postgraduate Scholarship (1939-1940)

The following awards were conferred on Dr Hughes whilst a student: William Mitchell Banks Bronze Medal for Anatomy (1933); Torr Gold Medal for Anatomy (1934); George Holt Medal for Physiology (1934); John Rankin Exhibition in Practical Anatomy (divided with Mr H Hughes) (1934); Kanthack Medal for Physiology (1935); Silver Medal on Obstetrics and Gynaecology (1937); Gold Medal in Medicine (1937).
