Summary: | This volume is indexed alphabetically. The Cunard White Star Board was formed in 1934 following the merger of the Cunard Steamship Co Ltd and the Oceanic Steam Navigation Co (White Star Line). Cunard White Star took over many of the assets of both companies including in particular the building contract and interest in S.S. No. 534 (the Queen Mary). The Cunard White Star Board consisted of directors from both companies and the first Chairman was Sir Percy Bates, Bart. Details of the organisation of the Board and Company can be found in the minutes of the first meeting held 17th May 1934. Three Sub Committees of the Board were established; the Finance Committee, the Executive Committee and the Shipbuilding Committee. Examples of subjects which frequently occur in the index include shipbuilding, repair and fitting out of ships, and the on-going management of ships, accounts and banking, discussion of shares, and staffing matters. |
