Biographical/Administrative Information:

At the first meeting of the Teaching and Learning Sub-Committee, held on 18 Mar 1992, the Terms of Reference for the committee were agreed as follows:

  1. To advise the Academic Committee on policy for teaching and curriculum delivery.
  2. To maintain a review of major developments in teaching across the University.
  3. To advise Academic Committee as required on the implications of resource allocations for teaching.
  4. To advise the Admissions Committee of changes in teaching policy which may impact upon admissions policy.
  5. To review the outcome of the audits carried out by the Academic Review Sub-Committee and seek to identify factors affecting teaching which require wider dissemination and action in the University (including student assessment of teaching).
  6. In conjunction with and through the Staff Development Committee, to provide training and support for staff in reviewing, adjusting and implementing new methods.
  7. To advise Academic Review Sub-Committee as required on the teaching methods which might be appropriate in new course proposals.
  8. To maintain liaison with the Enterprise programme and to draw on its outcomes as appropriate for promulgation within the University.
  9. To administer any funds which the University makes available for the support of teaching and curriculum development.
  10. To keep under review developments in educational technology and to identify opportunities for its introduction.
