Conklin asks for permission to include EFR's short story Dear Devil in an anthology he is editing entitled The Big Book of Science Fiction; Conklin thanks EFR for his complimentary remarks on Conklin's anthology Invaders of Earth; says he is disappointed that he cannot use EFR's novelette Mechanistria, but is pleased to be able to use a revised version of EFR's short story Boomerang; mentions delays to the publication of a book of EFR's Jay Score stories, and says that he knows of several publishers keen to produce a collection of EFR's short stories; Conklin discusses American publishing practice and EFR's attitude to the re-anthologizing of his stories; says that he cannot use EFR's short stories Mana, Follower and Muten, but is keen to use This One's On Me and suggests passing Displaced Person on to Anthony Boucher of Fantasy & Science Fiction Magazine; refers to Russell's letter in Hyphen and a possible collaboration between Conklin and a doctor on a collection of medical science-fiction; says that he would like to include EFR's novelette Metamorphosite in his science fiction mutants anthology; Conklin discusses EFR's idea for an anthology of "adult” or "mature” science fiction stories; explains some "Americanese” phraseology; discusses EFR's short story Test Piece, and the response from readers of the anthologized version; asks about EFR's non-fiction book Great World Mysteries; says that he wants to use EFR's novelette Legwork in a novelette collection for Fawcett, and suggests minor changes to the text of the Astounding Science-Fiction version, some concerned with American idiom; says that he will be including EFR's short story Still Life in his anthology Another Part of the Galaxy; mentions EFR giving up his job in engineering; says that he is very disappointed that EFR does not want his novelette Nuisance Value anthologized, particularly as it had already been selected by Conklin's editor at Gold Medal Books; and Conklin also appeals for EFR to produce more stories; also includes fan letters [addressed to Groff Conklin], requesting information about Russell and his work.
