Summary:Manuscript letter in addition to routine family inquiries and news, Walter comments on a visit he had made recently to New York and describes to Sampson the "war enthusiasm" displayed by the Americans in response to the US entry in April 1917. He writes, "All the shops and most of the houses [were] draped with the French, English and US flags and on the main street [there were] high pedestals with stucco spread eagles (crouching) at intervals of about 30 feet.[and] At every available corner you see orators recruiting ..."
