Summary:The group General Papers contains mainly miscellaneous material relating to John Sampson including correspondence received and sent by him to friends, material relating to the conferment of his honorary degrees by Oxford University in 1909 and the University of Liverpool in 1930, photographic material and a selection of biographical articles written about him by L.J.H. Bradley for the University of Liverpool and Oliver Elton's entry on him for the Dictionary of National Biography. This last area also includes correspondence between Elton and Dora E. Yates [a former friend and research assistant of Sampson] concerning the preparation of this notice.
