Summary:Most of these papers formed the basis of the book Henry Dry-Bread: The Richard Wade papers (Nottingham: Derbyshire Gypsy Liaison Group, 2001). This book comprises stories, poems, songs, family history, vocabulary and reminiscences, mostly sent by Henry Sherriff to Richard Wade whilst Sherriff was in prison. This small collection also contains other material produced or gathered by Wade in the course of his research.

Biographical/Administrative Information:Richard ('Dick') Wade was born in 1926 in south Lincolnshire. Initially practising as a lawyer, he became a writer, painter and broadcaster, with a strong interest in Romani language and culture. He was a member of the Gypsy Lore Society and was assistant editor of this society's journal.George Henry Sherriff, known as Henry Sherriff, was an English Romani from the Midlands. He claimed to be the last living speaker of the language puri chib.
