Biographical/Administrative Information:Mr. John Okill was born on 8 June 1875 in Wavertree, the son of John Okill, a joiner, and his wife Elizabeth. Following education at the Liverpool Institute, he joined the staff of the Department of Engineering at University College, Liverpool, as an apprentice in the workshops, in 1891. In 1917 he was appointed Assistant Lecturer and Demonstrator. He was promoted to become a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering as from 1 October 1933 and retired, as Lecturer in Engineering and Superintendent of the Laboratories of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, at the end of 1941, after fifty years service. Mr. Okill received the degree of M.Eng. (ex officio) from the University in July 1922. He died on 4 June 1947.
