Summary:

Copy of printed memorial by 19 named members of staff to the Council of University College referring to the impending danger of the loss of Professor Kuno Meyer who had been invited to accept a Chair of Teutonic Languages in the University of London and suggesting that a Chair of Celtic be established for the period of Dr. Meyer's tenure in order to retain him at Liverpool, n.d. [1902].

Typescript, amended, draft of the above Memorial, n.d. [1902]

3 letters from Professor Kuno Meyer, 6 Montpelier Crescent, New Brighton to the Principal regarding the possible chance of his accepting the [Chair of Teutonic Languages] at London, mentioning pecuniary considerations and also what he regarded as the unsatisfactory condition of the Arts in the College (alleging that the Principal and the Professor of Education consider commercial Spanish more essential than philology in a University, and complaining about the continuing preliminary and elementary work), 8 & 12 July & 15 Oct. 1902.

2 letters from Professor Kuno Meyer, 6 Montpelier Crescent, New Brighton and a letter from W.T. Burgess, all addressed to Sir Edward Lawrence [Chairman of the Council, University College] on the above offer of a Chair at London, Meyer complaining about the work he is called upon to do ("almost throughout schoolwork of a more or less elementary character"), the need of reforms in the Faculty of Arts, the impossibility of training competent teachers, and the low level of the salary of the Chair of German, 16 & 20 Oct. 1902.
