MS. notes in the hand of Professor Mackay (and possibly others including Twemlow) for lectures he gave mainly on Tudor History and 16th century European History (including lecture on Scotland under James V and Henry VIII given at Edinburgh, Summer 1895), and also on the policy of Henry V in the establishment of the mediaeval virtues [? written by Twemlow], and the 18th century

These notes, some of which may have been notes for his work on The Tudors, are undated with the exception of the Edinburgh lecture and a note "Written Dec. 5 '91 Friday at 5 a.m. circ.", whilst some notes are written on the backs of or attached to copies of the printed Entrance Scholarship Examination Paper in History, May 1892 and the Final English History College Examination, Christmas 1893

Galley proofs (9 sheets) of Professor Mackay's unpublished work on The Tudors; covers period 1509-34

The first sheet is headed Book VI The Tudors, whilst some other sheets are headed Powell's History: History of England for the use of middle forms of schools by F. York Powell and J M Mackay.

Copy of printed Letter and Testimonials of Professor Mackay on becoming a candidate for the Chair of History at the University of Edinburgh, May 1894.

(with annotations [?in the hand of Twemlow] in French regarding Mackay's wish to move to Edinburgh and commenting that if he had have moved Liverpool would not have become a University) and MS. draft in Twemlow's hand of the testimonial to Mackay by his former pupils on his Edinburgh candidature
