Biographical/Administrative Information: | Sir Edward Cust: 1794 - 1878. General and military historian. Was educated at Eton, made lieutenant in 1810, and fought in most of the battles of the Peninsular War. Was elected M.P. for Grantham, 1818 - 1826, and for Lostwithiel, 1826 - 1832. Was made Knight Commander of the Guelphic Order of Hanover in 1831 and master of ceremonies to Queen Victoria in 1847. Honorary D.C.L. in 1853; colonel, 16th Light Dragoons 1859; general, 1866; created baronet, 1876; author of Annals of the Wars of the Eighteenth Century. |
