Physical Description:1 Envelope
Summary:

Items in this envelope and box were originally found inside small envelopes within a box entitled "Hanns Weltzel Photo-Abzüge", addressed to Georg Althaus from Klara Weltzel. The envelope contains duplicate photographs - all individual prints and some cut-outs of mainly of poor quality - of those taken by Hanns Weltzel in the 1930s and photographs of Gypsy families in the 1960s, probably taken by Georg Althaus.

There are 21 photographs of Gypsy ware with pencil numbering and annotations on the back. There are also 30 official identification photographs of Gypsies with names and sometimes dates written on the back, one of which shows a board with the concentration camp name Salzwedel on it.

Within the box are slides that are duplicates of Weltzel and Althaus photographs; negatives in a film box that are duplicates of Weltzel photographs; colour negatives of a Gypsy group and a photographic image on metal by Kamill Erdös.

Captions have been taken from annotations on the photographs and slides except where there is none, whereupon they have been taken from duplicates or simply describe what can be seen in the image. All duplicates have been referenced. The handwriting of the captions has not been definitively identified, but is likely to be Hanns Weltzel's (potentially written while he was ill?). Some captions can clearly be identified as Hanns Weltzel's hand and one or two have been written in Klara Weltzel's hand.
