| Biographical/Administrative Information: | Professor Derek Hull joined the staff of the University of Liverpool in 1960 as Lecturer in Metallurgy, being promoted Senior Lecturer in 1961. He was appointed first holder of the Chair of Physical Metallurgy in 1964, transferring to the Henry Bell Wortley Chair of Metallurgy (later entitled the Henry Bell Wortley Chair of Materials Engineering) in 1966. Professor Hull served as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, 1971-74, and as a Pro-Vice-Chancellor, 1983-84. Professor Hull was appointed Goldsmiths' Professor of Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge in 1984, returning to the University of Liverpool (where he is a Senior Fellow) on his retirement in 1991.
