Summary: | Obverse: bust of Harvey in relief, legend round edge: The University of Liverpool. Harvey, reverse : laurel wreath in relief, no date, no inscription. [This medal is of the same design as the silver medal in D37. A silver and bronze medal were awarded each year when appropriate to the best student in the first year medical subjects of elementary anatomy, physiology and chemistry taken together. The details are set out in the first Calendar of University College Liverpool, 1882-83, p.69 of the Medical Faculty Prospectus. It is not clear whether this was a new departure or a continuation of prizes awarded by the former Royal Infirmary School of Medicine. The medals continued to be awarded until 1892. From 1893 separate medals were awarded for the three separate subjects of the first year exam.] |
