Separated Material:Other papers which were collected at the same time were shortly afterwards deposited with Liverpool Record Office: these comprise principally the tape-recorded conversations (31 cassette tapes) Dr. Davies had with individuals on the history of St.Nicholas', the Parish Church of Liverpool, (with transcripts), 1995-97 (Liverpool R.O. reference Acc. No. 5658); a Liverpool Voluntary Society for the Blind cassette tape (newsletter: focus no.6, n.d.); a published report on the training of girls for service at Fazakerley Cottage Homes, 1904, (Liverpool R.O. reference 352 SOC 1/27), and a photograph of a bowls game in front of the Anglican Cathedral [?early 1960s] (Liverpool R.O. reference Photographs and Small Prints: Sports and Amusements: Lawn Bowls), both of which he bought [from dealers].
Biographical/Administrative Information:

Mr Reginald T. Davies (1923-2002) joined the staff of the Department of English Literature as an Assistant Lecturer in 1948 and was successively promoted, retiring as Reader in 1983. He served as Warden of Gladstone Hall, 1965-72, and of Roscoe and Gladstone Halls, 1972-86; he was Public Orator of the University, 1977-81; founding Chairman (1984-2000) and later (2000-02) Vice-President of the Friends of the University. In 2000 the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters (Litt.D.) was conferred upon him by the University.

Dr. Davies, who had retired to a home in Cathedral Close, in the shadow of the Anglican Cathedral, died in September 2002.
