Biographical/Administrative Information:The Harold Cohen Library was made possible by a gift of £100 000 from Harold L Cohen, Chairman of Lewis's and was formally opened on the 21 May 1938. This library housed the entire contents of the Tate Library and the Medical Library plus considerable numbers of books from other departmental and class libraries. In 1937-1938 the number of volumes was estimated at 243 000. Extensive redevelopment of the Harold Cohen Library was carried out 1996-1997
