Volumes into which cuttings, from national and local newspapers and journals, relating to the work and activities of the University College, later the University, and its staff and students have been pasted.

The cuttings are principally from the local press (Liverpool Daily Post, Liverpool Mercury, Liverpool Courier, etc.) until after the 2nd World War. The cuttings for the period March 1948 onwards have almost always been obtained from the International Press-Cutting Bureau in London; it would appear that some cuttings at least were obtained previously (and at least by 1900 there is evidence for the practice) from a bureau.Also bundles of Press cuttings on individual subjects such as on individual members of staff, research, and University events. There are also volumes with cuttings relating to the War Service of former staff and students of the University.
