Biographical/Administrative Information: | John Raymond Brosnan was born in Australia, 7 Oct 1947, and was a resident of the UK from 1970. He published non-fiction works on film, beginning with James Bond in the Cinema (London: The Tantivy Press, 1972). Other books on the cinema include Movie Magic: The Story of Special Effects in the Cinema (London: Macdonald, 1974), The Horror People (London: Macdonald and Janes, 1976), Future Tense: The Cinema of Science Fiction (London: Macdonald Janes, 1978), The Primal Screen: A History of Science Fiction Film (London: Orbit, 1991), and Scream: the Unofficial Guide to the Scream Trilogy (London: Boxtree, 2000). He also wrote film columns for Science Fiction Monthly and Starburst. He wrote short stories, novels, and film and TV scripts. Some of these were written under various pseudonyms: John Raymond, Harry Adam Knight, Simon Ian Childer, James Blackstone, and Harry Walker. He also wrote alongside other authors, including Leroy Kettle and John Baxter. His novels include Carnosaur (London: W H Allen/Star, 1984), The Sky Lords trilogy (1988-1991), The Opoponax Invasion (London: Victor Gollancz, 1993), and Mothership (London: Gollancz, 2004). Some of his novels were filmed, for example Slimer (London: W H Allen/Star, 1983) was filmed as Proteus (1995), and Bedlam (London: Victor Gollancz, 1992) as Beyond Bedlam (1994); both of these works were written by Brosnan and Kettle. Brosnan died in London, 8 Apr 2005. |
