Biographical/Administrative Information:

The Terms of Reference for the Board of Graduate Studies are:

(a) to receive a report on students accepted for M.Phil, P.h.D. and research training degrees by individual Faculties;

(b) to supervise the arrangements for monitoring progress of individual postgraduate research student and to approve as necessary such aspects of individual candidature as are governed by Ordinances and Regulations for University research and research training degrees;

(c) to co-ordinate the provision of the University-taught research module for the research training master's degree, and to determine its method of assessment;

(d) to consider proposals for research training programmes, taking into account user community needs, and in conjunction with relevant Faculties and Graduate Schools, submit these to course approval procedures as appropriate;

(e) to act as forum for all matters of institutional policy relating to postgraduate students (whether registered for research or taught courses);

(f) to receive and consider annual reports on the activities of individual Graduate Schools, and on the membership of the Management Committee of each;

(g) to determine the allocation of research or research training studentships funded by the University, in collaboration with the Research Strategy Group.
