Biographical/Administrative Information:

The Admissions Committee changed name to the Admissions Strategy Group in the 1996-1997 session, the terms of reference for the group remained the same.The remit of the Admissions Committee within the overall policy and planning framework determined by the Senate:

(a) To develop an integrated strategy for student recruitment, particularly at the undergraduate level, and to co-ordinate the implementation of such a strategy.

(b)  To work with the Faculty Admissions Officers and departmental selectors to ensure the achievement of student number targets as determined by the Senate on the advice of the Academic Committee.

(c)  To ensure that policies and activities of all offices concerned with student recruitment are consistent with the agreed recruitment strategy and that the work of those offices is properly co-ordinated and effectively targeted.

(d)  To make budgetary submissions to the relevant spending committees in respect of student recruitment activities, to allocate the monies resulting from those submissions and to monitor the effectiveness of the resulting deployment of resources.

(e) To report to the Senate from time to time on matters relating to the Committee's sphere of responsibility, making such reports through the relevant spending committee where the issues for discussion fall within the terms of reference of one or more of those committees.

The Admissions Committee was active up to the 1995-1996 University session.  After this the role of the Admissions Committee was carried out by the Admissions Sub-Committee who reported to the Learning and Teaching Committee.
