Biographical/Administrative Information:The Computing Services Department provides the academic, administrative, research and teaching computing services for the University of Liverpool. It has developed from the Computer Laboratory, opened after the University upgraded its computer from a DEUCE to a KDF9 in 1964. The Computer Laboratory moved to larger premises on Brownlow Hill in 1969 which was extended in 1974. A microprocessor laboratory was established in 1979 under the initiative of the Department of Computational and Statistical Science and the Department of Electrical Engineering to provide an advisory service to students. The Computer Laboratory was renamed the Computing Services Department in 1992.
