Biographical/Administrative Information:Alfred Jones graduated BA Hons Geography 1929 and Dip.Ed in 1930In 1920 a gift of £25 000 from T Harrison Hughes made possible the purchase of the Wyncote estate in Allerton. Here new playing fields were laid out, named the Geoffrey Hughes Athletic Grounds in memory of the donor's brother killed in the war. These grounds were more commonly known as 'Wyncote'. In 1929 additional land was acquired to expand these facilities and in 1962 a new pavillion was erected, designed by Gerald Beech of the Architecture Department.
