Summary:

These records were collected together, and briefly listed, by John Vaughan, Tutor-Librarian of the Department of Education. They date mainly from the time of the Education Librarian Miss Elizabeth Cameron who was appointed on 1 July 1920 (at a salary of œ175). The records were transferred from the Department of Education Library on 7 November 1996.

As well as documenting the operational side of the Library, the correspondence and book lists illustrate in particular the collecting interests of the Professor of Education Ernest Trafford Campagnac. The role of C Sydney Jones in providing funds for this collection of rare books is noted in Kelly's history of the University For the Advancement of Learning, on page 233. (Note: the rare books collected during this period are now retained in the Department of Special Collections and Archives in the Sydney Jones Library.)

Records of Professor Campagnac can be found at D728 and A199. Records of the main university library and class libraries can be found at A196.
