Biographical/Administrative Information:

The School of Architecture and Applied Arts was inaugurated in 1895 under the direction of the Roscoe Chair Professor F M Simpson. It began by offering a two year full-time Certificate and in 1901-1902 the qualification of Hons BA in Architecture became the first of its kind in the country. In 1906 this was replaced by the BArch degree.

At the time of Professor Charles Reilly's retirement in 1933 the School of Architecture was the leading School in the country. Students from Liverpool were exempt from all bar one of the ARIBA examinations and Liverpool entrants proved outstanding in National and International competitions.
