The Sub-Committee recommended in July 1965 that the name "Carnatic" be used to identify the site as a whole. In March 1966 it was agreed that the two halls which formed this Phase I development of the Carnatic site be named as Salisbury Hall (for women) and McNair Hall (for men). In August to October 1966 Salisbury Hall (for women) and McNair Hall (for men) were completed and opened together with Carnatic House which contains the social and dining facilities.
