At its meeting on 14 July 1951 the Development Committee considered a report from the Chairman of the Fabric Committee relating to the Marine Biological Station and agreed that the Director be invited to attend a sub-committee of the Development Committee [Biological Station Sub-Committee]. At the next meeting of the Committee it was decided that the Bala scheme (for a new laboratory and research wing) would have to be deferred through lack of available money. In the end the Sub-Committee were only able to effect a re-organisation of the space inside the main building in 1954, a sea water storage tank in 1957 and an additional laboratory in 1959.
