The papers in this collection represent the personal, business and political life of Sir John T. Brunner, Bart. Each section has a brief biographical history to provide contextual information. The Personal Papers consist of family and genealogical papers, correspondence and personal diaries. Business Papers are largely correspondence regarding the business and are a single series in chronological order. Political Papers consist of secretarial papers, general and local elections, local politics, national politics, House of Lords and Monarchy and international politics. The final section in the collection is titled General Papers which consist of letter books, press cuttings, testimonials, MS notes and benefactions and memberships.

The collected papers of the Rt Hon the Lord Owen, former Chancellor of the University of Liverpool, cover his political career from his early Labour Party membership until his retirement as SDP MP for Plymouth Devonport. The main body of records date from c.1962-1995, although the collection also contains some earlier material relating to David Owen's family life and education.

Close to 700 boxes of records in various media, including correspondence, MS notes, memoranda and reports, committee papers, speech transcripts, news cuttings and publications, campaign material, photographs and cartoons and video and cassette recordings.

The Gerald Beech Partnership Papers relate to various projects the company was involved with, particularly the erection of Bedford House Staff Club and the Wyncote Development. There are also folders relating to smaller projects at a warehouse in Gloucester Place, Abercromby Square redevelopment/railings, Staff House extension into 5 Abercromby Square, Staff House future developments, Corporation Cottage, University Air Squadron buildings at 24-26 Oxford Street, the University Chaplaincy, Tate Hall, School of Architecture and the University Naval Unit at 18 Oxford Street. These folders consist mainly of correspondence, plans and drawings, tenders, certificates for payment, invoices, reports, minutes and costings.

The Birrell Collection comprises correspondence between Augustine Birrell, members of his family, and other correspondents, including three letterbooks of autograph letters received by Augustine Birrell or his second wife Emily Tennyson. There is also correspondence between Birrell's step-son Sir Charles Tennyson, who made the initial gift of Birrell material, and members of his family.
