Biographical/Administrative Information:Freda Milner Roberts Mb ChB FRCOG FRCPath, was born on 7 December 1923 in Merseyside. After her father died when she was just 6 years old, Freda was raised solely by her mother. Having attended Birkenhead High School, she received a scholarship to Belvedere School and went on to obtain a place at Liverpool Medical School in 1943.Whilst she was an undergraduate at the University of Liverpool, she was appointed Lady President of the Guild of Undergraduates from 1945-1946. She graduated in 1948 with honours in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.After her initial training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, she changed to Pathology with specialisation in Haematology. She then undertook a career in Transfusion Medicine, becoming director of the Liverpool and North Wales Transfusion Centre in 1978. Her main roles in this post were in the management and transfusion support of Rh D sensitised pregnancies, and the ongoing development of antiD immunoglobulin and prevention of RhD haemolytic disease. She retired in 1986.She died on 19 May 2003, pre-deceased by her brother and husband, and leaving a son named John, a daughter named Helen and two grandsons.
