| Arrangement: | The photographs (D.361/1/1-60) were sorted generally to bring together photographs of the same subject/person and numbered accordingly. The photographic negatives were listed in the order in which they were found in the 6 individual boxes ("Ilford Soft Gradation Panchromatic Plates" and, in the case of D.361/2/83-104, "Wellington Anti-Screen" [Plates]) but every endeavour has been made to note whether a photographic print of the same is also in the collection (D.361/1/1-60); it appears that there are not photographic prints of a total of 69 of the negatives. There are thus almost 130 different photographic views in all in the collection. This calculation excludes D.361/1/61-79 and D.361/2/105-126 which were subsequently deposited. |
| Custodial History: | Given by Dr. Frank R. Neubert, Le Bon, La Corbiere, Forest, Guernsey, 7 May, 2 July and 6 August 1986, and 9 October 1986, with an additional deposit by Mr. A. Clifford Brewer, May 2006. In May 2006, Mr. A. Clifford Brewer, FRCS, generously donated photographs by Dr. Neubert together with two other photographs which the daughter of the late Dr. Neubert gave him in 2002. These photographs (in some cases providing an additional print to that already donated by Dr. Neubert) bear the references of D.361/1/4, 13-17, 28-30, 32, 34, 41, 45, 48, 52, 57, 68, 75, 77 and 80-97; D.361/2/2, 61, 63, 70, 71, 73, 84 and 97; D.361/3/1, 3, 9; and D.361/6/1,2. |

It has been agreed that before any of the photographs be reproduced his consent should be obtained, that due acknowledgement be given to him in any reproduction, and that he should be supplied with (or offered) a copy by the publisher free of charge. |
| Biographical/Administrative Information: | Dr Frank R. Neubert entered the Medical School in October 1929, having passed the Mature Matriculation Examination. He graduated M.B.Ch.B. in 1939 and M.D. (by thesis) in 1946. The title of Dr. Neubert's M.D. thesis is `A study of Colour Vision and the examination of its Anomolies'; a copy is held in the Harold Cohen Library. Dr. Neubert's entry in The Medical Directory 1985 records the following degrees and licences etc. as held by Dr. Neubert and his honorary and other appointments: "MD Lpl. 1946, MBChB 1939, MRCS Eng. LRCP Lond.1940, LMSSA Lond.1935, DOMS Eng.1944, MF Hom 1944, DO Oxon.1946. Late Regist. Roy.Lond.Ophth. Hosp. (Moorfields); Hon. Ophth.Surg. Princess Eliz. Hospital Guernsey; Squadron Ldr. RAFVR, Ophth. Specialist." As a professional photographer Dr. Neubert holds the following fellowships etc.: F.R.P.S., O.G.Ph., F.P.S.H.K., E.F.I.A.P. As a student Dr. Neubert was very active in athletics (swimming, rugger), the Guild of Undergraduates, the University Contingent of the Officers' Training Corps, and the Medical Students' Debating Society (nowadays the Medical Students' Society), photographically recording a number of these activities as well as his fellow students, and staff of the Medical School and the local teaching hospitals. As a photographer, Dr. Neubert "retired" from serious exhibition photography in 1966; he has been on Kodak's professional list since c.1934. He retired from his practice as an ophthalmic surgeon in 1974. He died in late 2001 or very early in 2002, aged 100 years. |
