The lecture etc. notes (D376/1/1-14 were all taken in notebooks sold by Philip, Son & Nephew Ltd., 3 Bedford Street North, Liverpool, and bear the University's name and coat of arms on the front covers.

Mr Marson has not retained his notes of the 1939-40 Session in the Department of Education at Coleg Harlech, nor his French and German course notes.

Biographical/Administrative Information:

Mr. Marson entered the University in October 1936, studying French, Modern History, and Geography and graduating B.A. with Honours in Special Studies (Geography) in July 1939. He was awarded the Diploma in Education in July 1940. In October 1944 he registered for the M.A. (part-time) and in July 1949 was awarded the M.A. for his thesis on Coventry - a study in urban geography (copy in Sydney Jones Library, University of Liverpool, ref. Box 1596). The Sydney Jones Library also holds a copy of Mr. Marson's B.A. thesis of 1939, The water supply of North Staffordshire

He held a Major Scholarship from the City of Stoke-on-Trent and a Board of Education Grant from 1936 onwards until 1940.

Whilst he was at the University, Mr. Marson lived in the Ullet Road hostel (Rankin Hall) 1936-39 under the Wardenships of Dr. J.C. Prescott (Warden until 1937) and Mr. Leonard J. Barnes (Warden 1937-39) and the Sub-Wardenship of Mr. S.J.K. Baker (Sub-Warden 1935-39). In the Session 1939-40 Mr. Marson was at Coleg Harlech (with Professors Roxby and Porteous, Mr. W.J. Varley, Mr. R. Palmer, Professors Veitch and Martin, etc. from the Departments of Geography, Education, English Literature, and Modern History).
