Separated Material:The University's Department of Physics holds further papers of Professor and Mrs Band and of Dr. Alan. J. Maddock. Besides those noted in the preface to the list of D899/2/1, these comprise a group photograph of the University of Liverpool Physical Society, 1927-28, and Dr. Maddock's final year undergraduate Physics practical notebook, 1926-27.

Biographical/Administrative Information:

Dr. Alan Julian Maddock studied at the University of Liverpool, graduating B.Sc. Honours in Physics in 1927, M.Sc. in 1928 and D.Sc. in 1947. A copy of his M.Sc. thesis ('The X-ray Analysis of Arkansite') and a copy of the published papers and patents he submitted for his D.Sc. are held by the University's Harold Cohen Library (refs. Theses 307 and 786 respectively). Dr. Maddock died in August 1966.

Miss Christabel Chesterton entered the University in October 1927 and graduated B.A. Honours in Classics (Latin), Class 1, in July 1931. She later married Dr. Alan J. Maddock.

Professor William Band, a fellow student and friend of Dr. Alan J. Maddock, graduated B.Sc. with Honours in Physics in 1926, M.Sc. in 1927, and D.Sc. in 1946.
