The Minutes are mainly in Welsh; inserted in the volumes are press cuttings, programmes, photographs, etc. of or relating to the Society.

Dr. Vaughan Jones has kindly identified most of those featured in the photographs, etc. with the assistance of Dr. Hugh Owen; where some doubt remains as to correct identity a question mark ? prefaces the name.

Dr. O. Vaughan Jones was admitted as a Life Member of the Liverpool Medical Institution at the Institution's Inaugural Meeting of the 1981-82 Session, on 15 October 1981.

O Vaughan Jones: MB ChB 1931, MD 1936, FRCOG

Dr. O. Vaughan Jones died in 1986. In Convocation Annual Report 1987 (p.33) it is noted that he was formerly Vice-President of the University College of North Wales at Bangor and Chairman of its Council from 1981 to 1985. An obituary notice appears in Liverpool Medical Institution: Transactions and Report 1986-87, 1987.

The Medical Students' Debating Society is the oldest Faculty Society at the University of Liverpool, older, than the University of Liverpool itself. It was founded in 1874 by students of the old Royal Infirmary School of Medicine. Since 1943 it has been called the Medical Students' Society and it has its own journal Sphincter .
