Biographical/Administrative Information:John Giblin, BEng, CEng, FIM 1945. John Giblin entered the University in Sep 1943 to study Metallurgy and graduated B.Eng (Metallurgy) in Jan 1946. As a student, he was a member of the University Engineers Senior Training Corps, the University Engineering Society and the University Catholic Society. He later became a member of the Liverpool Metallurgical Society (not the Liverpool Materials Society), serving as its Honorary Secretary, 1957-1976 and President in 1977-1978. Giblin retired as Chief Metallurgist of the Prescot works of BICC plc. He took a particular interest in the history of BICC and researched and wrote a Memoir of Dr Francis J Brislee 1876-1955, who studied at University College, Liverpool and later joined the staff of the University of Liverpool before becoming, in 1910, Chief Chemist for both the Prescott and Helsby Works of BICC. Mr Giblin died on 26 October 2002.
