Biographical/Administrative Information:

Wilfred Henry Russell Cook entered the Liverpool Medical School in October 1932 and graduated M.B., Ch.B. in July 1938. He was Student President of the Liverpool Medical Students' Debating Society in Session 1937-38; he also served on the Society's Committee 1933-36. He was awarded the Silver Medal in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology in July 1937. Following graduation, Dr. Cook was appointed House Physician to Professor Henry Cohen at Liverpool Royal Infirmary and also a part-time Demonstrator in Pathology in the Medical School. After war service, as a Surgeon Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy, Dr. Cook was appointed a Registrar at Liverpool Royal Infirmary under Dr. Wallace Jones. In 1949 he was appointed a Consultant Physician to Broadgreen Hospital and the Southport Infirmary, transferring from the latter in 1952 to the David Lewis Northern Hospital, remaining there and at Broadgreen Hospital until retirement.

Dr. Cook graduated M.D. in 1951 with a thesis on The use of a right pectoral lead electrocardiogram in myocardial infarction (copy in Harold Cohen Library, University of Liverpool, ref. Thesis 914A). He was elected FRCP London in 1969. In 1991 he was admitted to Life Membership of the Liverpool Medical Institution; the text of Peter Davies's oration in presenting Dr. Cook for admission was published in the Institution's Transactions and Report 1992-93, 1993, p.75.
