| Biographical/Administrative Information: | Samuel Greg Rathbone (1823-1903) was second son of William Rathbone V and Elizabeth (née Greg). Merchant in partnership with his brother, William Rathbone VI, worked for Rathbone Brothers in China in the 1840s. Elected Liberal councillor in Liverpool 1862, main concern being elementary education. J.P. for over 40 years, Freeman of Liverpool, 1894. Married 1. 1855, Rosamund Cuthbert (d.1867) daughter of Col. Cuthbert of Cheltenham and 2. 1869, Augusta Hervey (née Lyle, d. 1913). Five children: William Cuthbert (1856-1943), Sydney Cuthbert (b.1860), Alexander Cuthbert (b.1861), Robert Cuthbert (1865-1943) and Rosamund Augusta (1866-1953). |
