Biographical/Administrative Information:Dr J L Howard, educated at Manchester Grammar School and was one of Oliver Lodge's first students. He attained first class honours in BSc Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at the University of London. He was a lecturer and demonstrator in Physics c1889-1899 at University College, Liverpool and a an official of the Liverpool Physical Society, involved in much experimental work with Oliver Lodge. He died of Typhoid aged 33 in 1899
