Biographical/Administrative Information:

Robin Almond grew up in Ainsdale in Lancashire. At the age of 17, on 1st January 1957, he joined the Merchant Navy.

In January 1957 he became a Cadet Purser with Elder Dempster Line and in December of the same year he took up a shore based position as First Class Reservations Clerk with Union Castle Line.

In April 1959 he secured a position as an Assistant Purser with Cunard Line.

The Cunard ships Almond sailed on, and the duration of time spent aboard, are as follows:
Mauretania for 158 days
Queen Mary for 9 days
Caronia for 187 days
Queen Elizabeth for 588 days.

Robin Almond left the Merchant Navy on 18th September 1962 in order to emigrate to Australia.
