This section contains material relating to Rideout's research into the Port of Chester, the Cheshire coast, the Rivers Mersey and Dee and work on the Wirral. Subjects covered include trade, agriculture, geology, coastal erosion and local history. The material covers the period 1874-1927 but much of the material is undatable but the majority of the research seems to have been done in the 1920s.

The material seems to have been used for several talks to local history societies such as the Society for Lovers of Old Liverpool eventually leading to the publication of Rideout's book The Growth of the Wirral (Liverpool, 1927), for which some galley proofs exist in this section.
