Summary:Contains records relating to Cunard House Ltd - a subsidiary company charged with the building and management of the headquarters in Leadenhall Street, London, known as Cunard House.Cunard House Ltd was incorporated in 1930, with principal shareholders Cunard (78,334) and C & D Line Ltd (166, 664). The company was originally called New Avenue, with Directors H. W. Corry, Sir Percy Bates, Sir Alfred Booth, S. J. Lister and J. R. Rooper. Cunard House itself was opened on 26 September 1932 by Mr H. W. Corry, joint deputy manager of the Cunard Company, and was claimed to be one of the greatest shipping centres in the city of London.A handsome eight-storey structure in a simplified Renaissance style, the building occupied an area of nearly 22,000 square feet. It gathered the entire City interests of the Cunard Line and its Associated Companies - the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, and Anchor Line. The concentration of these famous shipping companies in one building marked yet another development not only in the expansion of the Cunard Line but also in their association with the City and Port of London, an association which dates back to 1840 when the Cunard Line was inaugurated.Records include Cunard House Ltd memorandum and articles of association, minute books from Board of Directors meetings, agenda books, and financial records including accounts, receipts, stocks and share records and building contracts. Also includes correspondence files dealing with the construction of the new premises in London, newspaper and magazine cuttings and a selection of photographs.
