Biographical/Administrative Information:The School of Architecture and Applied Arts was inaugurated in 1895 under the direction of the Roscoe Chair Professor F M Simpson. It began by offering a two year Certificate and then in 1901-1902 a qualification of Hons BA in Architecture. In 1906 this was replaced by the BArch degree and by this time Professor Charles Reilly was in charge of the School, which had shed the 'Applied Arts' in 1905. In 1909 the School moved to the Bluecoat Buildings until 1918 when it was relegated to part of the former Lock Hospital in Ashton Street (now site of the Harold Cohen Library). The new Architecture building took in nos. 24-27 Abercromby Square and was officially opened in 1933.
