Biographical/Administrative Information:The Adult Education Department was established in 1936 and became the Extra Mural Studies Department in 1938. Renamed the Adult Education and Extra Mural Studies Department in 1963, it was reconstituted as the Institute of External Studies in 1970 and was at that time occupying Nos. 1 and 2 Abercromby Square.
