Copy of a group photograph of BA Honours School of History (Medieval and Modern History) graduates, with staff, outside the New Arts Building July 1925.

Though those featured in the photograph (D732/1) are not individually identified, those who graduated B.A. Honours in Mediaeval and Modern History in 1925 are listed in the University's Calendar 1926-1927 pp.549-550; they comprised eight female and fine male students, whereas eleven graduates (seven female and four male) are featured in this photograph. The staff have been identified by reference to the list of staff given in the Calendar and known views of individuals.

Separated Material:Mrs Latham also gave a selection of her mother's books, which numbered over 8,000 in total, to the University of Liverpool and it was amongst those books held in the School of History that D732/2 was found and transferred to Special Collections and Archives in January 2001. Mrs Margaret Latham retains and incomplete copy of her mother, Sarah Hamm (nee Rowland)'s B.A. thesis, The Fifteenth Century View of History(1925): a copy of this thesis is not held by the University of Liverpool Library.

Biographical/Administrative Information:Mrs Sarah Hamm nee Rowland, BA Hons, Medieval and Modern History, 1925 (first class). She went on to take a Dip.Ed. at Oxford in 1926 and then taught history at the Lewisham Prendergast School in South London until she married in 1931. Mrs Hamm later returned to teaching successively in Battersea, Bermondsey, Framlingham and (in her retirement) at West Kirby High School.
